Lessons Learned from the Ramses Exchange Fire

Lessons Learned from the Ramses Exchange Fire

We must acknowledge the scale of the human and material losses and their repercussions on communications, banks, electronic banking services, airport traffic and others ..even if only for some time. Certainly the specialized security services are examining the matter from all sides ..and in any case we see that the greatest enemy raises its head in this incident, and that is negligence….negligence and the absence of security awareness among many officials and workers in important institutions and facilities ..the truth is that we are clever at issuing legislation and decisions that designate important and vital facilities, without real implementation of how to protect and secure those facilities or follow up the implementation of those decisions. .like much legislation and many decisions issued without studies of the means of implementation or provision of the tools, cost and duration of implementation ..which has made Egypt first in the world in the quantity of legislation and laws…that have not been implemented…negligence is not an accusation but a general feature of the state of many officials.. because of weak awareness, poor judgement and the absence of the security dimension ..and the clever one is he who looks for ways to save on the costs of securing sensitive sites, especially those relating to information, data, communications and networks. And the lack of interest in training workers or educating them about the nature of the risks and the crisis-response and evacuation plans. And forming a crisis management team …under the heading what if?? ..let us not cry over spilt milk ….we must learn so that these serious incidents are not repeated. We hope it will be an incident whose effects pass quickly and not a continuing crisis …..because the concept of information security is not only electronic security ..but comprehensive security of the site and the servers against natural and human risks, including dealing with fire hazards with alarm systems and self-extinguishing (automatic) suppression gas, as used in banks .. we call for following the example of the security sector of the Central Bank ..which sets and specifies the means and equipment for securing banks in Egypt ..and follows up and monitors closely around the clock the implementation of those plans with precision and mastery..we must benefit from these lessons in all institutions, companies, factories, the various means of transport and others ..and we notice some risks on the horizon, such as rising temperatures..earthquakes, even minor ones ..the Alexandria storm ..the collapse of some buildings..besides the various security risks ….and these risks may be an indicator of security crises. We hope the negative effects of the fire will be treated..and we hope the matter will not drag on, because losses of information and data are usually great ..we hope everyone realizes that we are being targeted.. especially in the current regional and global circumstances …we admit that security is among the most expensive commodities, but it preserves our various assets, especially information ..benefiting from lessons is the true understanding of securing our lives, our information and our daily affairs…the best is yet to come, God willing.
