Police Day… A Story of Loyalty and Sacrifice

Dr. Bahaa Helmy Writes: in Al-Gomhuria newspaper:
On 25 January each year Egypt celebrates the anniversary of glory, dignity and patriotism, the anniversary of the Battle of Ismailia in 1952, the day when the men of the Egyptian police recorded their heroism and sacrifices in Ismailia against the British occupation army, in letters of light that illuminate the record of the nation’s history.
This day embodies the creed of the police in defending the honour and dignity of this homeland and their loyalty to the noble mission even unto sacrifice, and this mission is entrenched in their consciences, minds and work.
Faith in the mission of security and responsibility for providing tranquillity to citizens and watching over the preservation of public order in its elements (public security – public health – public tranquillity) and public morals, within the framework of commitment to the Constitution and the law and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, is a noble national mission that requires loyal and capable men who devote all their time and effort to serving the security of the homeland. They are the men of the Egyptian police, who work supported by their families and children and their patriotic motive.
The celebration of the valiant Egyptian Police Day bears witness to a march of struggle and national combat and the faithful, sincere and continuous giving offered by the police who watch over the security of the homeland and the citizens, and immortalizes the memory of their martyrs.
The mission of the police is not only to combat crime in all its forms or to protect citizens from terrorism and confront all forms of organized crime, but also to provide the factors of safety and security and to deal with the security risks arising from the practices of human activity in society with all professionalism and skill, whether in the industrial, economic, social, health and medical or environmental field or others.. side by side with the law enforcement tasks with which they are charged around the clock.
The police deal with all emergencies, crises and security challenges through an organizational structure suited to their specializations, capacities and capabilities, in accordance with science, knowledge and precise job description, with good training at the Police Academy and its various scientific institutes, or at the institutes for police non-commissioned officers and other training institutes and centres, as well as acquiring the special skills and capabilities that qualify them to confront what exceeds the capabilities of the local police in the security directorates and their various units, such as the valiant men of Special Operations and Central Security, who work in silence and self-denial.
The creed of the police is derived from national genes inherited from fathers, mothers and grandparents, polished and entrenched through preparation, the shaping of awareness and the example drawn from the conduct and giving of former leaders who gave their all, and through current leaders who perform their duty with honesty and sincerity.
The finest examples of patriotism and sacrifice for the homeland are the epics and stories of the martyrs of duty; the Egyptian mother and wife are the source of love and tenderness, the source of strength and inspiration for the children and the ray that awakens the feeling that brings out the drive to sacrifice for the homeland, and she bears the pain of separation with patience and fortitude. So every greeting to her and to the members of their families and their children, and immortality to the souls of the martyrs.
Protecting lives, honour and property and preventing and detecting crime requires special human capacities, capabilities, information and motives, tireless work and singular determination in facing challenges, and showing a spirit of boldness and initiative to abort everything that touches security and stability.
This celebration also places more responsibility on the shoulders of the police in serving the people by developing performance and training, relying on science and technology and mastering the means and methods of confronting crime, and moving towards digital transformation for more security services for the comfort of citizens, to lighten the workload and to protect against disease.
On the occasion of the celebration of Police Day, we address a due greeting to the Egyptian people, who carried and embraced the sons of the police in the proud revolution of 30 June 2013, who shook their hands and supported its men, in cooperation with the great army, to recover the homeland, take hold of the reins of security and confront terrorism.
A greeting of appreciation and gratitude to the leaders and commanders who gave in full; until recently the Ministry of Interior used to celebrate a Day of Loyalty through a meeting of the Minister of Interior with them after the Police Day celebrations, in honour of them and of their working lives and of their contribution in work or in preparing cadres from the following ranks.
A greeting and congratulations to all the loyal men of the Egyptian police who have worked and are working throughout the homeland, or on the missions of Egyptian police units in peacekeeping operations beyond the borders, on the day Egypt celebrates its holiday.
