Security Official: We Are Studying a Change to the Central Security Forces' Uniform
Maj. Gen. Bahaa Helmy, Assistant Director of the Central Security Forces for Planning and Follow-up, announced that the sector is currently studying a change to the Central Security Forces' uniform so that it gives them adequate protection and is fire-resistant. Maj. Gen. Bahaa Helmy, Assistant Director of the Central Security Forces for Planning and Follow-up, announced that the sector is currently studying a change to the Central Security Forces' uniform so that it gives them adequate protection and is fire-resistant. This came in response to demands by members of the Shura Council's Committee on Arab and Foreign Affairs and National Security during the committee's meeting this evening, and Helmy called on the Shura Council, the deputies, to issue the demonstrations law quickly. Helmy said during the meeting – which discussed the situation of the Central Security Forces – that Central Security conscripts are selected by the Armed Forces, noting that over the last three years they have been receiving level 6, that is, holders of the General Secondary Certificate or its equivalent, unlike in the past. He added: "We have no interest in having soldiers selected from among the illiterate, and we will not accept always being the culprit and the victim, as under the former regime." He stressed that his role has nothing to do with politics, although the media are attacking them fiercely these days, noting that they are returning to their camps but take part in some security duties given the country's circumstances. Responding to some members' accusations that the Ministry of Interior mistreats Central Security conscripts, Helmy said: "The situation is completely different now; Central Security camps are in the best shape, and the dining halls are equipped to the highest standard." He added that the treatment of a Central Security conscript is a responsibility before God, in addition to criminal responsibility: "If I don't treat him kindly, he won't stand by my side and endure being pelted with bricks and stones." Helmy denounced what Central Security forces are subjected to when they are questioned before the Public Prosecution, saying: "It is unreasonable that a soldier is questioned and treated as a suspect while the person who threw a Molotov cocktail at the forces is released."
